THE Vale of Glamorgan council has set out its official eight point plan for the next four years.

Despite the future of the local government in Wales still being unclear - with council merger spearhead Leighton Andrews no longer having a seat in the assembly following the recent elections - the Vale council have agreed on a corporate plan which sets out objectives to be undertaken between now and 2020.

The plan contains eight broad "wellbeing objectives", breaking down the council's overarching vision for the Vale.

The eight objectives are: reducing poverty and social exclusion; providing decent homes and safe communities; promoting regeneration, economic growth and employment; promoting sustainable development and protecting our environment; raising overall standards of achievement; valuing culture and diversity; encouraging and promoting active and healthy lifestyles; and safeguarding those who are vulnerable and promoting independent living.

The plan It also sets out how, by working towards these objectives, the Vale of Glamorgan Council will contribute to the seven national wellbeing goals put in place by Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act.

Now that these objectives have been agreed their delivery will be closely monitored and reported annually.

Speaking after the plan was agreed upon - following a public consultation - council leader Neil Moore said: "People are working hard to support their families, caring for the young and the old within our communities and they expect and deserve good services which meet their needs.

“This plan sets out not only how we will deliver for them, but also our vision for the Vale of Glamorgan as a place we are all proud of, one where people choose to live, do business and enjoy visiting, where there are opportunities for all ages, and where everyone feels valued and has a bright future."

Cllr Moore went on to point out that "despite delivering savings approaching £35 million since 2010" the council has "continued to provide priority services that meet local needs".

He added: "The Vale of Glamorgan council was ranked as the top performing council in Wales last year according to figures published by Data Unit Wales. This is why we are confident that we can deliver the programme of actions contained in this plan and make a positive difference to the lives of local people.

“Although change is needed we will sustain priority services and continue to work with partners, listen to what our citizens tell us about the services they value, and use this to help shape the way in which we work.

"I believe that this plan gives a clear message that as a council, we will continue to serve our local communities and to improve local well-being, now and into the future.”
