I AM extremely honoured to have been re-elected to serve the Vale of Glamorgan following the National Assembly elections on May 5.
I would like to thank all those who voted for me and pledge my support to everyone in the Vale as your local Assembly Member. I will endeavour to serve you as I have sought to do so over the past 17 years; working hard and responding to the needs of individuals, families, communities and businesses the length and breadth of the constituency.
I was always determined to be positive throughout the campaign and deal with questions, criticisms and feedback as openly as possible. I respect the people I represent and learn from them on a daily basis - especially when taking up local issues, such as when I caught the number 98 with bus passengers to check out the route and see if improvements could be made, or when I talked to the many people who believe the proposed closure of the Barry Crown Post Office an appalling loss of service.
I held a public meeting this week at the Memo to highlight that the consultation about the closure of Barry Crown Post Office closes on Wednesday, June 8 and it is vital that the people of Barry respond with evidence of what this would mean for their lives, communities and businesses.
I also recently presented to the Post Office, my petition of 4,600 names together with a report. It is completely unacceptable that the Post Office is considering closing its Crown Post Office in Barry – the largest town in Wales. We must fight this all the way.
I will continue to work tirelessly to serve the people of Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan and secure a great many more improvements - including better bus services and a more frequent train service on the Vale line from Barry to Rhoose, Llantwit Major and Bridgend. I will continue to support the regeneration of Barry and will back our airport, BAMC and Aston Martin.
I am also supporting the Barry Island Community Centre and the group looking to develop the Castle hotel.
Finally and importantly, I remain deeply committed to helping vulnerable people and those who do not have a strong voice in the Vale.
If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me on 01446 740981 or by emailing jane.hutt@assembly.wales
