DESPITE supposedly being fixed during the Vale council's Big Fill campaign, giant potholes have reappeared in Cadoxton much to the anger of local residents.

Frustrated road users that the area is again riddled with giant potholes, which are causing damage to vehicles and posing an accident risk.

This is despite the fact that several of them were targeted by the Vale council's Big Fill pothole scheme, a campaign which aimed to fix every pothole in the Vale one area at a time.

But Tracey and Russell Adams, of Hathaway Place on the Coldbrook estate, pointed out that one of the potholes still bears faded paint, a remnant from when it was marked out by the Big Fill pothole crew and repaired before.

Mrs Adams, 52, said it had already re-appeared.

Mr Adams, 56, said he believed there was risk of collision with nearby parked cars or even passing pedestrians if vehicle swerved to avoid it.

He added that the potholes may be causing damage to tyres at a cost to drivers.

"Anywhere that buses go on to should be classed as a major road," he said. "The road surfaces need repairing properly. Filling the holes shouldn’t be a temporary solution.

“Perhaps the council should pay us our road taxes back for all the damage it’s doing to our cars?”

Vale council head of visible services and transport Emma Reed said as was the case for all local authorities, keeping up with the road surfacing and pothole problems was a never ending challenge.

She said: “We know this is an important issue for our residents and so are doing a huge amount of work to tackle the problem. As part of The Big Fill campaign we now have our officers working on Saturdays and Sundays to fill potholes and they fill thousands of holes in the Vale’s roads each year.

“The team will now investigate the reported holes on Coldbrook Road East and if repairs are required schedule these in line with their severity. All potholes classed as high risk are filled within 24 hours and we endeavour to fill all holes reported to us within 28 days.”
