A BARRY mum featured on television coverage in the run up to the London Marathon.

Emma Greenway successfully completed the 26.2 mile race, with her sister-in-law Natasha, in memory of Natasha’s new-born daughter, Pennie Olive - who died unexpectedly shortly after birth.

The pair took part, and discussed the heartbreaking tale, in a bid to raise the profile of infant death charity The Lullaby Trust.

Ms Greenway, who is also a member of Barry Running Club said: “It was an emotional experience especially when I thought about the cause, the reasons behind it all and my family watching and waiting in the wings."

“I completed the marathon in four hours and 12 minutes. I tried to pace myself and stick to my plan.

“I felt strong throughout the race so would like to think my training plan was good and I built up the miles correctly.

“Apart from a nasty blister I've come off well. I've heard of some people losing all their toe nails, so it could be worse. Everything is sore and aching but it was worth it"

“At times it got tough especially towards the end, I thought about the reason i was running looked down at my lucky penny which was tied to my laces and whisper ‘c'mon Pennie, c'mon baby girl, let's do this’," added the 33-year-old mum-of-two.

"The crowds and all my family watching at the cheering stations were also a massive encouragement. The day was an amazing experience.

"I wouldn't rush to sign up again in a hurry mind you.”

The Lullaby Trust provides specialist support for bereaved families, promotes expert advice on safer baby sleep and raises awareness on Sudden Infant Death (SID).

The charity works with the NHS to run a national health-visitor led service for bereaved parents, Care of Next Infant (CONI) programme, which supports families before and after the birth of their new baby.

It is committed to supporting research to understand why 600 babies a year die suddenly and unexpectedly in the UK and to find out more about how to prevent these tragic deaths.
