THE Rotary Club of Barry is proud to announce an outstanding performance by their Intermediate Youth Speaks Debating Team in the Region Six Final of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition, hosted by Rotary District 1210 on Saturday, April 16 in Wolverhampton.

Youth Speaks is one of many competitions organised by Rotary for young people across the country, mainly in conjunction with schools.

In the Intermediate Section (11 to 13 year olds) the Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg Intermediate Team, chaired by Huw Jones; their Speaker Twm Aled and their vote of thanks given by Sara Jones gained praise, not only for their outstanding debating skills but also for their preparation, their attitude and their presentation.

Delivering their chosen presentation topic, “Can we 'meat' expectations?” the Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg Team gave a most polished, professional performance.

Other regional finalists were the Redland Green School, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Clifton, Bristol. Thomas Telford school sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brewood and District and the President Kennedy School sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coventry Jubilee, who were chosen as the regional winners.

In line with national rules, speaker Twm Aled had to answer a question from the audience to show that the team had a clear understanding of their chosen presentation topic.

President of the Rotary Club of Barry, Paul Halstead, congratulated the Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg Intermediate Team on reaching the regional final and said the club were very proud of their success in this competition.

In Great Britain and Ireland there are 1850 rotary clubs, each with the aim of helping others whilst at the same time enjoying club life and meeting with others of the same mind.

Club members are made up of people from all walks of life and of differing ages who organise varied activities in their own locality and some overseas.
