THE Welsh Government is to plough £120 million into schools, transport, healthcare and housing projects across Wales, it has been announced.

The cash is to be used to fund a range of projects, including £50 million or transport schemes, £10 million for post-16 education and another £10 million to help people with complex health needs live independently.

Finance minister Jane Hutt made the announcement ahead of a debate on the Welsh Government’s draft budget for the 2016-2017 financial year in the Senedd today, Tuesday.

It is hoped the investment, which also includes £10 million for new ambulances, £5 million for energy efficiency projects and £3 million to help tackle fuel poverty, will create up to 2,000 new jobs.

A further £10 million will also be allocated to neonatal services in south, west and north Wales and £20 million into social housing and regeneration projects.

The minister said: “Investing in infrastructure is key to our approach to supporting sustained economic growth.

“Every part of Wales will benefit from this £120 million investment of capital funding in our infrastructure and my announcement today has the potential to create around 2,000 jobs during the construction phase, boosting growth and supporting the delivery of more efficient public services.

“This is on top of the £43 million immediate capital boost I recently announced for schools and social housing across the country.”
