THE new log flume is on its way to Barry Island and we have an exclusive first look at the Pleasure Park's new ride.

In addition to the new Pirate River log flume, a double chuted upgrade for the Island, the Danter family will also be introducing a giant Ferris wheel to the Pleasure Park's roster.

Owner Henry Danter explained recently that the wheel will be so big that Weston-super-mare will be visible from its apex.

Since taking over the Pleasure Park earlier this year, the Danter's have made quick work of getting the iconic site back open and are keen to stress that the best it yet to come.

The old log flume was, for many, one of Barry Island's most notable features, being the sight that first greeted visitors driving in from Harbour Road and standing at the front of the Pleasure Park for 35 years from 1980 until its demolition earlier this year.

According to Henry, the new log flume is merely the start of his plans for Barry Island.

"We've got lots of things going on," he said. "Lots of plans and a lot of new rides.

"What we've done already is a lot to happen in eight months. We said that our plans will take five years but I don't think they will take that long.

"We're doing what we've always wanted to do, but it takes a bit of time. It can't be done overnight but it's certainly going to be bigger and better next year.

"We said we'd do our best for Barry Island and we meant it."

Henry added that he hoped the log flume could be up and running as early as next month.
