AT ITS November meeting, Sully U3A members enjoyed an informative and entertaining talk from estate planner Kevin Thomas on the theme Tax, Care and Toyboys.

He described Estate Planning, the process of planning ahead so that the wealth accumulated during your lifetime can be passed on to your intended beneficiaries.

He outlined three major problem areas, inheritance tax, care fees and MAD (Marriage After Death). Kevin stressed the importance of making a new Will on re-marriage to avoid the possibility of disinheriting one’s children.

The different ways of owning a home, including Tenants in Common, was discussed and the importance of setting up a Power of Attorney.

Kevin ended by humorously comparing the approximate one per cent interest offered by a Cash ISA and the seven per cent increase in the cost of funerals.

The December meeting will be the Christmas Party. New members are welcome at the next full meeting on January 14, 2016 at 2pm in The Old School, Sully.
