DURING this centenary year of the Woman’s Institute, the ladies of the Wenvoe branch of the WI wanted to mark the occasion with a special donation to the village.
Although a relatively small group with only 17 members, they set their sights high and decided to donate a bench to be placed in the grounds of their local church, St Mary’s.
To achieve their goal they held various fundraising events to raise the money and were successful in their venture.
The bench was duly purchased and received by the Reverend Jon Ormrod of St Mary’s, who kindly blessed the bench in a small ceremony held at the site of the bench, with most of the members of the Wenvoe WI present.
The bench is well sighted opposite the main entrance to the church and has already proved popular amongst the congregation.
Following the short ceremony the ladies adjourned to a local garden centre for tea and cakes in the small café. The group would like to thank the village environmental team who prepared the platform for the bench and secured it in its location.
