JENNER Park school pupils had an exciting visit when police horses had to make a quick getaway.

They were called into action near the end of the school visit which took place on Tuesday, November 10.

Horses galloped out of the school groups along Barry Road and were dispatched to help flood a nearby area where a burglary had taken place.

Pupils watched from their classroom windows as blue lights flashed and a full police response kicked into gear.

Sergeant Mark Jones, said: “That is the beauty of this job - no two moments are the same. One minute we are meeting children at a local school and quite literally, minutes later we are all racing off trying to locate a couple of suspects.”

It was a dramatic ending to the police visit during which pupils got to direct questions to officers and get their hands on real equipment such as handcuffs, airwave radios, and the police uniform.

Following the dramatic visit, pupils went to the station to thank the officers. Sergeant Jones added: “The children absolutely loved it - they have already been to the station to thank us with a bag of carrots and apples for the horses, so we kindly put them in a cell fora few minutes, which they loved! Who knows, we may have just crossed paths with some police officers of the future – they certainly got a taste of reality on our visit to their school.”
