AS shocking discoveries go, suddenly finding out you're nine months pregnant is a big one.

But that exactly what happened to 39-year-old Barry woman Tracie Matthews who - with absolutely no idea she was even pregnant - was told by doctors she could go into labour at any given moment.

Ms Matthews, of Abingdon Street, had been feeling unwell for a long time - regularly sick and suffering with sleepless nights - but numerous doctors appointments and blood tests had failed to find out what was wrong with her.

After searching her symptoms online, she initially shook off the idea that she might be pregnant before caving in and getting a test.

A shop bought test and a trip to the doctors later, it was confirmed that Ms Matthews was pregnant with a baby boy - and not only that, but she was around 39 weeks pregnant meaning that she could go into labour at a moment's notice.

Ms Matthews, who already had a 15-year-old son, Ben, said: "Although I have one son, I've been pregnant three times - I've had two miscarriages - and every time I knew that I was pregnant straight away.

"I had no idea this time. It didn't show up on any blood tests and I haven't had any movement or anything.

"Never in a million years would I have thought I was pregnant - I mean I'm going to be 40 next year. No one would believe me when I told them."

Being out-of work and facing the prospect of heading into December with a new born baby, Ms Matthews has said that she wants to thank her friends and family for rallying round and helping her and her partner, Damon Partridge, prepare for the arrival.

She said: "It's been a really, really big shock and it's all very daunting but we're looking forward to it now. My boyfriend is chuffed to bits.

"My friends, family and people in my street have been absolutely fantastic, helping me get everything together. Being out of work there's no way I would have been able to afford everything.

"I just wanted to say how much I appreciate everyone's help, it's really touched me."
