THE latest unemployment figures for the Vale of Glamorgan show that the number of people who are out of work and claiming jobseekers allowance (JSA) is continuing to fall.

Data for October 2015 show that 1513 people are currently out of work and claiming JSA, a drop of 11 per cent on October 2014 and a drop of 46 per cent for the same period five years ago in 2010.

Manager for the Department of Work and Pensions in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Matthew Thomas said: "Compared to five years ago, significantly fewer people are unemployed or looking for work, compared to a year ago this number has also improved.

"We're really pleased to see there are fewer people unemployed than this time last year. The Department for Work And Pensions is fully committed to helping people to find work and there is a range of quality advice available at our job centres."

Nationally, Wales saw the largest annual rise in its employment rate of any UK region or nation

Employment Minister Priti Patel said: “Employment is at a record breaking high, and wages have continued to grow strongly, demonstrating that this Government is delivering for hardworking people.

“With two million more people in work since 2010, the unemployment rate at its lowest in seven years, and the number of people on one of the main out of work benefits down by a million since 2010, it is clear that this Government is transforming lives for the better, and creating the higher wage, lower welfare society that British people want to see.

“Wales saw the largest annual rise in its employment rate of any UK region or nation, up 1.7 percentage points to 70.9 per cent.

“But this growth is only one part of the story, because our one nation approach involves a commitment to provide opportunity and security for everyone across the country.”
