THE public consultation into the divisive Trinity Street one-way system has now closed, with a public meeting being set up to discuss the future of the plans.

The one-way system is currently being trialled on the street, famous for being home to Gavin and Stacey characters, having started in April this year.

In response to concerns about the speed and volume of traffic on the steep street, the one-way system was brought in with traffic going downwards only from the junction of Porthkerry and Montgomery Road until St Paul’s Avenue and upwards from the same junction to Jenner Road.

Although the consultation has closed the one-way system will remain in place while the responses are analysed.

During the trial the Council closely monitored traffic movements on the roads affected and invited residents to offer their comments and feedback on the scheme.

The plans were initially met with confusion from local residents who reported traffic frequently travelling the wrong way through the new system and others reporting being frustrated by having to take a convoluted and complicated route to their homes on adjacent streets.

All of the information collected doing the consultation will now be analysed before a decision is made on whether to keep the scheme on a permanent basis.

The information and full analysis of the trial will be presented at a public meeting on Friday, November 13 at 7pm in Trinity Church Hall, Trinity Street.
