FRIENDS of a family devastated by the deaths of two daughters have set up a fundraising webpage to help pay for a fitting memorial to the girls.

Cadoxton couple Susan and Martin Davey lost their 25-year-old daughter Jemma in 2008, and then 20-year-old Beth last July.

Both girls had Cystic Fibrosis with former Ysgol Bro Morgannwg pupil Beth urgently needing a double lung and liver transplant at the time of her death.

To support the family, friends - along with Beth and Jemma's sister Rachel Fowler - have set up a Just Giving page hoping to raise £600 for a memorial stone which can be placed at the girls' graves in Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery.

Rachel, 28, said that at the moment only Jemma has a memorial stone, with the family unable to currently afford a fitting tribute for Beth.

"Mum and dad hate the fact they can't just get the money together and put something up there," she said. "But after paying for the funeral and everything they can't.

"It wouldn't bring them closure, because you won't and can't get over it, but it would mean a lot to have something fitting there for Beth."

Family friend Claire Bellamy set up the Just Giving page, which has until October 22 to raise £600. Any additional money raised will be donated to the Better Life Appeal, a charity which supports the All Wales Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre based at Llandough Hospital.

Claire hopes that people in Barry will get behind the cause and help out a family in need.

"Beth was quite a big character," she said. "She was a very energetic, determined and bubbly girl. She was extremely brave and very inspirational.

"I think this would mean the world to her family. It's something they deserve and would be a fitting tribute to the girls."
