ASDA is continuing its commitment to good causes across Wales by donating the proceeds of the plastic bag tax.

Asda plans to donate £360,000 of funding to causes that matter most to its customers – with the help from charity experts at Community Foundation in Wales.

Local community groups and charities have the chance to apply for a part of the money but have until September 30 to get in their requests.

The money will be distributed by Community Foundation in Wales – who work to strengthen Welsh communities by awarding grants to projects that make a sustainable impact on local needs - as 180 awards of £2,000 each, with a charity focus on children and young people, older people, health and/or community cohesion.

Community Foundation in Wales will coordinate and advise on the awards, and regional selection panels of Asda colleagues will vote on which projects benefit, ensuring the awards are as locally relevant as possible.

The Asda Carrier Bag Community Awards scheme will be promoted by dedicated Community Life Champions across Asda’s 37 Welsh stores.

Charities wishing to apply for a £2,000 award can apply online at cfiw.org.uk or by getting in touch with the foundation via mail@cfiw.org.uk or 02920 379 580.

They can also speak to the Community Life Champion at their local Asda store for help and advice to apply.
