MEMBERS of the Royal Air Forces Association in the Vale of Glamorgan will be out and about fundraising during 'Wings' week held throughout the UK in September and arranged around the anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

It is particularly poignant this year as it is the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and 70 years since the ending of the Second World War hostilities.

It is no exception then that the Barry Branch, the oldest branch in Wales formed in 1938, is bracing itself for a very busy period beginning with a 'Wings' stall opening daily between September 1 and September 6 at Morrisons supermarket in Barry.

An Act of Remembrance will be held at the Memo at 12.15pm on Sunday, September 6 to which every one is warmly welcome to attend and there is a pubs and clubs collection on Friday, September 11.

On Saturday, September 12 there is an open invitation to the 'Celebrating the Youth of Barry' event on King Square, kindly supported by Barry Town Council and Bro Radio, combined with a street collection in Holton Road and Llantwit Major.

On Tuesday, September 15, the Vale of Glamorgan mayor Cllr Fred Johnson is hosting a coffee morning for Barry RAFA at 10am at the Civic Offices.

The event conclude with a concert at The Market Street Club on Friday, September 18 at 7.30pm featuring the talented vocalist Kris-Tina.

Although the branch has more than 100 members throughout the Vale, many are not able to assist at these events and the work is left to the handful of hard working committee members, ably supported by the Air Cadets of 372 and 2300 SQN.

The object for which the Association is established is to promote, through the comradeship engendered by its members, the welfare by charitable means of all serving and former members of our Air Forces, their spouses and dependents together with the widows and widowers and dependents of those who died whilst serving or subsequently.

All monies raised are used to support the above statement of intent.
