YSGOL Bro Morgannwg has seen an outstanding set of results in this year's GCSE exams, with staff praising pupils for their hard work during a "challenging and difficult time for the school".

Top performers at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg were Lois Aled, Niamh Cooper, Elen Dafydd, Nia Fenn, Caleb Darwin and Aled George who - between them - achieved an incredible 68 A*s.

The outstanding results have built on the success of last year’s cohort with 98 per cent of the pupils attaining five A* to C grades in GCSE or equivalent qualifications.

Most notably, a fantastic 21 per cent of the cohort (15 girls and 15 boys) achieved five or more A* and A grades which included Maths and English or Welsh, a testimony to the endeavours of those departments.

Seventy eight per cent of all grades awarded were A* to C, which is significantly higher than the national percentage.

A school spokeswoman said: "After a year full of emotion it is pleasing to celebrate very encouraging GCSE results. This follows an excellent set of A level results last week.

"We are proud of the efforts of the staff and pupils during a challenging and difficult time for the school. This is proof of the strength of the collegiality at the school.

"We are extremely pleased that every pupil will leave the school this year with a qualification. Pupils of all abilities have succeeded and deserve to celebrate their success.

"Staff and parents are delighted to be able to celebrate with all pupils who have fulfilled their potential and look forward to welcoming them back to the Sixth Form where they can further build on this firm foundation for their future studies."

Headteacher Dr Dylan Jones added that he was very proud of the staff and pupils for achieving great results during a difficult time and said he was very pleased with the results of what will be his last round of GCSEs at the school.
