SUMMER is off to a scorching start in Barry with three bumper events kicking off last weekend.

Saturday, July 18 saw the start of the fourth annual Barry Arts Festival with comedian Mike Bubbins and Featherweight World Champion Lee Selby opening the proceedings on King Square.

The event has already seen a host of music, drama, guest speakers, dance, comedy and more taking place across Barry and continues running until Friday (July 24).

The Cadstock festival was once again a massive success with thousands of people enjoying the sunshine and free live music at Victoria Park.

The Barry Island Weekenders also roared into action with the first event lighting up Barry Island.

The Isle of Fire event was a visual spectacle that had to be seen to be believed, and is just the start of a programme of events that will run until the end of August.

This weekend (Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26) will feature street music from All That Jazz and Samba Galez, and on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2 the top of the eastern shelter will welcome the Island Rocks event with shows from The Underdogs and Outback.

This weekend also sees the return of GlastonBarry, with 1800 people expected to descend on Romilly Park for two days of the UK's premiere tribute acts.
