CONCERNS have been raised after it was announced that flights from Cardiff Airport to Norwich have been scrapped just two months after they started.

Assembly Member Andrew RT Davies said that the news was "another setback" for the Rhoose based airport, criticising the Welsh Government's growth strategy.

LinksAir announced today (Tuesday, June 23) that they were cancelling their flights from Rhoose to Norwich due to a lack of passengers, offering refunds to those already booked for future flights.

The flights were launched in April, aiming to provide a service to passengers flying to England for business.

Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies said: “This news is particularly concerning given the fact that the route was only set up two months ago and begs the question what research was undertaken prior to setting up the flights.

“Following so soon after the news that passenger numbers at Cardiff had dipped below one million, once again Wales is failing to provide the impression of a confident and vibrant airport.

“This latest route withdrawal begs questions about whether the strategy for growth at Wales’ state-owned airport is right and whether opportunities for growth, route development and marketing are being properly explored.

“Welsh Conservatives disagreed with Carwyn Jones and Welsh Labour’s decision to spend 52 million pounds buying Cardiff Airport, but as it is state-owned, Labour Ministers must work hard to improve marketing and develop new routes with any new routes needing thorough research so we can restore confidence in Wales’ flagship airport.”
