SULLY U3A recently held its AGM where there were over 140 members present.

Chairman, Jean Bispham, presented her report. She said that membership continued to grow and it now stood at 308.

She thanked the committee members and group leaders for their hard work during the year. She said that the accounts were in good order and that subscriptions for 2016 would remain the same.

After the election of the committee for the coming year, there was a First World War Commemoration. The hall had been decorated with bunting and Union flags and members had been asked to come either dressed in the costume of the time or in red, white and blue.

There were contributions from the Ukulele and Recorders groups, readings by the Creative Writing Group and a play about a young boy who signed up and did not return to his family was performed by the Drama group.

There was opportunity for members to join in singing the songs of the time led by the Singing for Pleasure group. At the end of the play the names of the 11 men from Sully who died were read.

This was followed by a minute silence and the Exhortation. Jean Bispham thanked everyone who had contributed to the afternoon, including the many bakers who had made cakes for the tea that followed.

The next meeting will take place on Thursday, July 9 at 2pm in The Old School, Sully, when the speaker will be Tony Ewington from Barry National Coastwatch Station. New members are always welcome.
