FOUR students from Barry Comprehensive School were awarded a first place prize after representing the school at the Salters Festival of Chemistry at Cardiff University.
The main focus of the morning was "The Salters' Challenge", a competitive, practical activity, for which no advance preparation is required.
In the afternoon students tackled "The University Challenge", a practical investigation chosen by the University.
This was followed by an entertaining lecture with "pops and bangs" demonstrations.
The day ended with a short prize-giving at which the winning schools received prizes and all participants received certificates.
Cameron Morgan, Rhys Powell, Calum Thomas and Mark Williams from Year 8 competed in the Salters Challenge against ten other schools from South Wales and were awarded first place!
Congratulations to the boys on their excellent display of lab skills and teamwork.
