A SINGING teacher took no prisoners when she set to a workshop task with the Barry Community Choir on Saturday, May 23.
Kate Woolveridge, an accomplished mezzo soprano, vocal animatuer, and singing teacher, conducted a fun workshop hosted by the group at Crossway Methodist Church, Barry.
Kate has given many singing workshops across the UK, worked with women in Holloway Prison and the men in Parc Prison.
She had formed community choirs in the Rhondda, Merthyr and Swansea.
Kate won the ITV’s Lorraine Inspirational Woman of the Year 2012 for working with dementia sufferers and their carers in Cardiff forming The Forget-Me-Not Choir.
In the warm and friendly atmosphere the group enjoyed learning vocal techniques before and then putting them into practice while singing California Dreamin’, arranged by Roger Emerson, and The Seal Lullaby, Eric Whitacre.
Choir member Sheila Vaquerizo said: “Members of the group practiced some of these techniques -using the tip of the tongue, the teeth and the lips - on their way to work.
Passersby must have wondered what was going on. Call the men in white coats.
Delicious refreshments were taken during the break. What a feast was provided by choir members. Doggy bags went into handbags to go home.
A great afternoon had by all.”
