AS part of Give and Gain Day 2015, Vale of Glamorgan council employees devoted a day to volunteering to help local community projects.

Staff from the Council’s Housing and Building Services team supported the day with a community clean-up and skip amnesty and a makeover at a sheltered housing scheme.

One team undertook a community clean-up of the Williams Crescent area, cleaning and tidying the grounds, pathways and internal communal areas, as well as holding a skip amnesty day for the residents to dispose of any bulky or electrical household waste.

And another team of green-fingered Vale volunteers gave Gwenog Court in Barry a makeover, where they took to weeding, grass raking, preparing hanging baskets, planting pots, and repainting the garden benches in the communal areas.

Councillor Bronwen Brooks, Cabinet Member for Housing, Building Maintenance and Community Safety, said: “Give and Gain Day was a celebration of the local community.

"It was a great opportunity to give something back and to see how dedicated Vale employees are to making improvements in their local area.”

Give and Gain Day, organised by business charity, Business in the Community (BITC), is the UK’s only national day which celebrates the power and potential of employee volunteering.
