DURING the first week of the Easter holidays Barry Comprehensive School undertook its fifth trip to Iceland. All pupils studying Geography and/or Geology at A-level are given the opportunity to go on this ‘trip of a lifetime’.

The group spent the first night in Reykjavik and visited the amazing waterfalls at Skógafoss and Sjelandfoss along with the black sand coast at Dyrholaey. The next few nights were spent on the south coast in Höfdabrekka with visits to the spectacular glacial lagoon at Jökulsárlón and the Skaftafell National Park.

The last two nights were spent in the south coast town of Selfoss where the group visited the erupting hot water spouts of Geysir, the plate boundary at Þingvellir and the amazing waterfall at Gullfoss.

On the penultimate day they visited new areas in the west of the country including the volcanic cone at Grábrók and the beautiful waterfall at Barnfoss. Finally before flying home everyone took the chance to relax at the Blue Lagoon geothermal pools.

As well as the amazing sights the pupils were able to sample some Icelandic cuisine and experience the unique culture of this amazing country.

The trip, which is a joint venture with Cowbridge Comprehensive, was once again a great success and the pupils were a credit to themselves and their schools.

It is hoped that these spectacular sights will only help the pupils as they continue with their studies.
