TORY general election candidate Alun Cairns ran past Westminster in double-quick time when he raised more than £5,000 for two charities in the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday, April 26.

The 44-year-old dad-of-one finished in a time of 3 hours and 38 minutes raising money for the PDSA in Barry and Macmillan Cancer Care.

Mr Cairns has now completed four of the 26.2 mile London races - raising more than £20,000 for different charities since 2012.

The PDSA provides support for pet care for families and senior citizens across the Vale unable to use private veterinary care.

Alun said: “I was very pleased to finish the London Marathon first past the Westminster post. It has been a very busy but very enjoyable time fitting in my training with campaigning. There was no let up for my feet, as I as was straight back out knocking doors on Monday morning. I am very grateful to everyone that has contributed and are still sending money in for two fantastic local charities that helped local people enormously during my time as MP.”
