A BIG Bug Hunt at Barry Community Garden and Allotment saw Year 6 and 7 pupils from two Barry schools tasked with creating a bug hotel.

At the Community Garden, based in Gibbonsdown, pupils from Barry Comprehensive and Oak Field Primary School joined together to make a bug hotel made of recycled wooden pallets to support the wildlife in the garden in addition to planting pond plants and viewing insect eco systems.

Seventeen young people from the Barry Communities First "Catch Up Club" took part in a bowling team building day, for many of them this was their first experience bowling and all the children enjoyed the team activity they had chosen.

These activities were funded by the Barry Communities First "Transition from Primary to Secondary School" project which aims to improve young people’s confidence, attainment and attendance.

As part of this project there is also a weekly Catch Up Club during term time where young people can meet their friends, do their homework or take part in fun activities.

The Catch Up Club meets on Tuesdays at 3.30pm to 5.30pm at Parkside Christian Centre, St Brides Way, Barry.
