THE speaker at Sully U3A’s April meeting was Dr Meirion Morgan, chair of the Board of Trustees of Valeways.

Valeways was formed in 1996 and is a voluntary organisation which supports a wide range of volunteers to re-open and promote the Vale of Glamorgan’s countryside.

It supports the community in opening a sustainable network of Public Rights of Way and promotes the accessibility of the Valeways footpath network. There are many ways for volunteers to become involved and they come from various organisations and businesses as well as students and members of the community.

Volunteers can take part in work parties clearing overgrown vegetation and litter from footpaths, the installation of stiles, posts and bridges, leading walks, photography, IT support, administrative help and project management.

Dr Morgan said the work of the volunteers was invaluable and more are always needed. He gave members an overview of the walks led by Valeways volunteers where anyone can turn up and go. He was thanked by chairman, Jean Bispham.

The Knitters and Stitchers group has once again been busy and members have decorated the outside of The Old School with Easter eggs, chicks and bunnies. Some of the items made were used in the decoration of St John Baptist Church, Sully on Easter Sunday.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, May 14 at 2pm in The Old School, Sully, when Don Llewellyn will be talking on The Brains Behind “The Mob”.
