CONSERVATIVE general election candidate Alun Cairns, who held talks in Westminster with Barry Island Property Company’s (BIPC) Hilco arm, has welcomed the Danters’ arrival in Barry.

Mr Cairns got involved with the scheme after site co-owner Ian Rogers appealed for assistance, in the Barry & District News, when showman Vernon Studt announced he would not be returning to Barry Island Pleasure Park to operate funfair rides, as usual, this year.

With the future of the site in question, Mr Cairns engaged in dialogue with BIPC, the Vale Council and Henry Danter.

He said he was pleased the long drawn out deal had finally been reached and seeing wonderful the rides was encouraging.

He said: “I have done all I can to encourage investment in Barry Island, and I see this as just the start of a resurgence in the area. I became involved because I shared the frustration of local people seeing such an iconic site in Barry unused and only getting worse. Since Monday, I can't count the number of people that have stopped me in the street to wish the project good luck. The redevelopment of this site can act as a catalyst for other projects that could create many jobs for local people. The The Barry & District News has played an important role in raising awareness of the challenges on the Island?, and I am just delighted that we can all look forward to a fantastic summer."
