ON Saturday, April 25, there will be a service of commemoration for the Gallipoli Campaign Centenary at 10.40am.

The Royal British Legion would like people to attend the commemoration at the Memorial Hall Cenotaph, with people meeting at 10.30am.

This was a First World War campaign which saw more than half a million allied troops, 400,000 of them British, participating on land and sea off the coast of Gallipoli.

In total there were more than 200,000 allied casualties, either killed, injured or missing in just a few days of fighting.

There was a large Australian and New Zealand involvement and is known as ANZAC Day and remembered yearly in those countries.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli and there will be a National Service of remembrance in London on the same day.

The Paddlesteamer, Barry took part in Gallipoli and the South Wales Borderers.
