HUGE blue graffiti sprayed on rocks at Friars Point Barry Island has been called “disgusting” by the man who discovered it.

The Vale of Glamorgan council were also quick to condemn the anti-social actions of what appears to be teenagers on the Island, explaining that the operation to remove the ugly daubings will be difficult and “potentially dangerous”.

Island business owner Mark Vockins spotted the graffiti – which is of slogans and even some names – while walking, noting that litter had also been left at the Island beauty spot.

“It’s disgusting,” he said. “I think it looks terrible.

“The council are making an effort to make the island look nice and it spoils it.”

A spokesman for the Vale council said: “We aim to remove all graffiti from the Barry Island Resort within twenty four hours of it being reported.

“The location of this graffiti will, however, make removing it difficult and potentially dangerous so we will need to undertake a risk assessment.

“This will happen before the end of the week and we will remove the litter and graffiti as soon as we can safely get our cleansing team on site.

“The Vale of Glamorgan Council would like to thank the Barry and District News for bringing this to our attention.

“Graffiti is an antisocial crime that blights public spaces. We would urge anyone witnessing an act of graffiti to report it as soon as possible to either the council or the police.”
