AN UP-FOR-ADOPTION guinea pig attempted to elicit a squeak out of Barry’s mayor when he officially opened a new store on the Waterfront.

Squeak, the guinea pig, was one of the many creatures and customers getting a handle on the new Pets at Home store facilities and Barry mayor, Cllr Jeff Evans son Friday, March 13.

Following a competition in the Barry and District News, the town has a new pet star. Rosko, a one year old English Bull Terrier cross and his owner, Karen Keane, from Barry, also took part in the opening celebrations, where they were welcomed by store manager Alex Jones, who handed them their prize, £50 worth of Pets at Home vouchers.

Store manager, Alex Jones said: “What a fantastic start. Our opening weekend went even better than we had hoped and it was great to welcome the mayor. We also had a lot of fun meeting our star pet, Rosko, and his owner, Karen.

Pets at Home in Barry is home to an adoption centre, where pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and other small animals are cared for until a new loving home can be found.

Other features include a pet village, aquatics centre, reptile centre and Groom Room.
