MORE than 100 girl guides cast a creative eye on the world when they recently marked Thinking Day at Barry Comprehensive school.

Barry East District hosted the day when they invited members of Girlguiding from the Vale to Join them.

Thinking day, a time when all members of girlguiding and scouting think of other members all around the world, is celebrated each year on the birthdays, February 22, of both Lord and Lady Baden Powell who started the guiding movement.

Rainbows, brownies and guides enjoyed a day full of fun and singing from Africa, Europe, Australia and the Arab States.

Division Commissioner South East Glamorgan, Jayne Newcombe, said: “Girls made African drums, necklaces, rain sticks, masks, door hangers and bracelets, Australian beaches in a bottle and from the Arab States they chose to do weaving, Fair Trading and Evil Eyes.

“Each time a brownie completed an activity she was given a piece of a jigsaw. Once they had completed all activities they found the jigsaw was a map of the country they were working on.

“There were a lot of jigsaws completed and taken home along with all the other things they had made.

“Songs were learnt from each of the areas and the day ended with a traditional camp fire sing-along followed by a renewal of their Promises.”

Jayne thanked all the volunteer leaders who made the day special and one off the girls would remember.
