YOUNGSTERS at Jenner Park primary school have gained a play boost thanks to more than £30,000 of governor-approved funding.

Pupils from the special educational needs and nursery classes saw the launch of the new facilities which will enable them to both learn and have fun.

The children, who watched their new playgrounds grow during the last month, got to try out their exciting equipment on Monday, February 23 – after the Follow Your Dreams charity, Mr Tumble, and two PCSOs declared all systems go.

Monkey Puzzle class teacher Leanne James said the 10 pupils in her class had previously had to make do with a tarmac surface featuring equipment that had to be brought in and sometimes mended.

Now the children can make use of sensory equipment, sand, water, a muddy kitchen, music boards, imaginative play and kit designed for physical activity all on a soft pore surface.

Leanne said: “They are all thrilled and delighted. It’s a huge part of their learning. It’s going to help them develop in all areas.

“Before it was a tarmac area with a few items cemented in. The playground enhances their pleasure.”

Deputy head teacher Sarah Kirby thanked those who attended the launch, head teacher David Morris and the school governors for ensuring that the combined play projects happened.

Sarah added: “It’s going to offer us the opportunity to develop their motor skills.”
