BARRY’S Asda store has launched a search to find a local hero to open its shop to customers at 10am on Monday, April 13.

The deserving winner or group will follow in the footsteps of celebrities by getting a VIP welcome from store colleagues before taking centre stage to cut the ribbon, declaring the store open.

They will also be given a £100 gift card to treat themselves further.

Heroes can be nominated by family, friends or work colleagues and could be a person or a group who help to make life better for people in the Barry area, who goes that extra mile for a particular cause or person, or, an individual renowned for their local charity work.

Store manager, Richard Jenkins, said: “We’re really proud and excited to be opening our new store in Barry in April. We have a fantastic team of colleagues ready and waiting to offer our customers first class service.

“We want to play our part in the local community and our community life champion, Lynette Griffin, will work with groups and organisations in Barry to help make this happen. We’re inviting a local hero – be that an individual or group – to open our store to celebrate their fantastic achievements and hard work.”

The much-anticipated store is central to The Quays scheme which overall includes other retail outlets, a new English language school and a direct road linking Barry and Barry Island.

The supermarket is a leading part of the £230m Barry Waterfront Consortium project to build around 2,000 dwellings on the 100-acre area over ten years.

Nominations are being accepted up to Friday, March 27 and can be sent via email to asdabarryhero@havasww.com, or in writing to: Asda Barry Hero, 3rd floor, 52 Princess Street, Manchester, M1 6JX.
