THE next meeting of Barry and Vale Friends of the Earth will be at 7.30pm on February 3 in the Castle Hotel, Jewel Street, Barry.

Max Wallis, the Group's Researcher, has produced an excellent and detailed report on the Vale Council's Local Transport Plan, revealing its inability to unclog our crowded roads.

Following the success in opposing Green Field housing at Primrose Hill, Barry and Vale FoE will be supporting those opposing the environmentally unsustainable housing proposals for the fields to the East of Cowbridge.

This will clog up an ever more congested town and make the case ever more, for a new town in the Vale of Glamorgan, which is planed and sustainable.

It is the responsibility of the developers, Local Government and the Assembly, acting together, which is needed.

Continuing with Green Field add-ons which lack the necessary infrastructure, leaves us nose to tail, with poor public transport and little room for cyclists or pedestrians. Footpaths continue to be closed, so you may need to watch out when you're considering walking around the airport area. So much for the right to roam.

Opposition to Fracking continues and through the actions of Gareth Clubb, Foe Cymru's director, serious questions are being asked about Welsh Government funding and planning for the proposed race course above Rassau which would damage the Black Mountains and the Cardiff Incinerator, which may spread pollution over the city.

Barry and Vale FoE would urge people to vote for those political parties who recognise the urgency of the challenges, given that direct effects from global warming will be 'locked-in' and inevitable by 2017.
