PRIZE winning author and World War Two veteran Eileen Younghusband will appear on BBC Two quiz show next week, pitting her knowledge against the formidable Eggheads.

Eileen, 93, from Sully will be appearing in a team of fellow winners of the People’s Book Prize.

Eileen won the prize for her memoir One Women’s War which revealed the truth about the forgotten wartime women, who barely out of their teens were given an awesome responsibility.

Eileen herself served in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and is famed for receiving a coded message which alerted allied forces to a V-2 rocket attack on London.

Eileen graduated from the Open University at 87-years-old and in 2013 was awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours.

Her second book Men I Have Known, was also nominated for the People's Book Prize. Men I have Known is the light-hearted story of Eileen's life, from the 1920s to the present day, through the truly extraordinary men she has met.

Speaking about her quiz show appearance, airing on BBC Two at 6pm on Monday, February 2, Eileen said: “I’ve always been a fan of the Eggheads and was really pleased to be asked, especially to be alongside esteemed contestants such as Frederick Forsyth CBE, Amy Elliott-Smith, Griselda Heppel and Giles Paley-Phillips.”

Eileen is remaining tight-lipped as to the outcome of the show, but she promises that viewers will be on the edge of their seats throughout the broadcast.
