A TEAM of 13 Barry schoolboys have set out their stall to raise money for three charities following some adventure bonding activity.

The year 11 Barry Comprehensive school pupils will give back to the community by organising a family fun day at the school on Saturday, December 6.

The money raised by the group will be divided between three charities - Marie Curie Cancer Care, Journeys Depression charity and Alzheimer’s Society Wales

The group are members of the National Citizen Service (NCS), a youth action project run by Engage4Life.

NCS is a Government flagship youth engagement programme which gives young people an opportunity to grow in confidence, develop a range of new skills and make a positive difference to a cause close to their own hearts.

Engage4Life set out with a vision to deliver the services, skills, and experiences individuals require in order to grow, realise their potential and contribute to the lives of others in a positive way.

They youngsters have worked with the cabinet office on NCS since its pilot phase.

As part of the programme, the group spent four days at Llangranog activity centre completing a number of challenging activities, followed by three days at inspiring venues including the Millennium Stadium and Celtic Manor.

Pupil and team member, Tom Butler-Sainsbury, said: “We chose these great charities because they have affected us all in one way or another so please come and help us make this a real success story.”

Fellow pupil Rhys Evans said: “Working as a team, we have organised a free charity family fun day.

“There will be loads of exciting activities for all the whole family including raffles, live music, inflatables, food and drink from around the world, various stalls and face painting.”

Journeys training officer, Jacqui Rafferty said: "We are absolutely delighted and grateful that this inspirational group of young men has decided to support our charity. Our charity helps people with mental health conditions. We wish the young men every success with their project and the fun day."

All are welcome to the free family fun day at Barry Comprehensive School, Port Road West, from between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, December 6.
