CROWDS flocked to see the High Street Christmas lights switch-on this week with children delighted at the appearance of Santa and favourite Disney characters from Frozen.

Some Barry PSCOs and air cadets also saved the day when Father Christmas's appearance at the event suffered a mishap.

PCSOs Adam Lake and Owen Reynolds paved the way for a hasty replacement grotto, as well as helping senior citizens with their shopping bags, when Father Christmas’ dedicated home failed to arrive.

Richard from Chaplins made a last-minute-made Grotto happen, at Habanas, ensuring hundreds of children got to see their forever hero and Barry air cadets Lisa Shires and Stephanie Jones also waded in to help as thousands of people crowded into the area for the popular annual event.

The event saw Peter Walker, of Adey Fitzgerald & Walker, assisting Father Christmas in his work, Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Jodi Bird and High Street and St Baruc schools take to the stage.

Stalls lining the street included Nova’s ValePlus, Barry Town Council Fair Trade, and the Rotary Club of Barry complimenting the businesses already a part of the street.

Christmas lights design winners, of Ysgol St Baruc had the honour of pulling the lever which led to the official light switch-on.

Elsa, Anna and Olaf from Disney’s ‘Frozen’ brought some winter magic to the event organised by High Street Traders chairwoman Wendy Caswell and events co-ordinator, Helen George with supported from fellow businesses.
