THIS Saturday eco-volunteers will be needed to help plant 700 trees along the entrance to Barry. The trees will become a living memorial to the victims of the First World War. The woodland Trust is supporting the White Farm Conservation Group’s project to remember Barry’s heroes by donating the majority of the trees.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the junction of Port Road East and Merthyr Dyfan Road on Saturday, November 29 at 12.30pm. All equipment and gloves will be provided. All are welcome but please make sure to wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.

If you are unable to come along then why not make a donation by writing a cheque to “The White Farm Conservation Group” and posting the donation to Rob Curtis at 118 Merthyr Dyfan Road, Barry, CF62 9TJ.

The co-ordinator of the project, Rob Curtis, added: “Please spend a couple of hours helping us plant this wonderful living memorial to Barry’s Great War heroes - you even have time to plant before the Rugby starts.

"Britain has the least amount of woodland in the whole of Europe and by planting these trees you could do your bit to help reverse that trend. These native trees will give a vital home to our Welsh wildlife as well as helping to prevent flash flooding.”
