BRYN Hafren Comprehensive School hosted a transition day for all Year Six girls in and around Barry. The pupils came up to the school for the whole day to experience education at Bryn Hafren.

Pupils were put into groups of around 20 and all got to experience different aspects of the school. Some pupils got to experience Design Technology (DT), in this lesson they made a foam purse with a self-filed mirror to take home with them. One of the DT teachers quoted: “The transition days are always the highlight of my year, to see so many enthusiastic Year Six pupils enjoying their first glimpse of DT at Bryn Hafren.”

Other pupils enjoyed a cooking lesson with the Bryn Hafren chefs making rock cakes. The children learned the basics of cooking and safety in the kitchen. One pupil from Colcot Primary school said: “I am looking forward to coming to Bryn Hafren because it is something different to my old school, also you learn more as there are more exciting lessons to go to.”

Another group visited the Humanities faculty which is history, religion and geography in one area.

In this pupils created maps of the UK and made lamps to celebrate Diwali. A Geography teacher quoted: “It has been a successful day; it takes a lot of preparing for the lessons.”

The assistant head in charge of Key Stage Three at Bryn Hafren, Mrs Davies organised the event and told us: “I have never seen so many smiling faces. I am looking forward to teaching and working with the children I have met today. I look forward to this event every year even though it does take a lot of planning and preparation from all the staff here at the school, but it is all worth it in the end!”
