PUPILS at a Barry primary school ditched their desks and side-lined their iPads to enrich their lives with an alternative means of education.

Oak Field youngsters left their Gibbonsdown base to take part in the primary’s Pupil Enrichment Activity Programme, funded by the school, on Monday, October 20.

Nursery and reception classes and their extended families jumped around the Parc Play Indoor Adventure centre in Cardiff while Years 1, 2 and 3 visited Bristol Zoo.

Children took part in workshops and visited a variety of exciting and exotic animals from around the world. Scary spiders and awesome lions held the children captivated.

Madison said: “The gorillas were so funny. I loved it and can’t wait to go back” while Nevaeh said: “I liked the monkeys because they were silly”.

Sienna added: “I’ve seen different animals that I’d never seen before.”

Years 3, 4 and 5 proved equally as daring by making a splash at the Cardiff International White Water Rafting centre.

The enthusiastic rafters thanked Head teacher, Ian Williams for their water-fuelled day-out after donning their wet suits, negotiating rapids and riding through the thrilling white water course.

They said: “Wow, we had a whale of a time.”
