A REPORT by the Commons Welsh Affairs Committee calls on VisitBritain and Visit Wales to jointly develop a coherent strategy to get more international visitors by February next year.

It is hoped a new strategy will attract more skilled workers, tourists and inward investment from within the UK, Europe and further afield as Wales remains one of the poorer parts of both the UK and EU.

The Committee say Wales’ potential as a tourist destination is being undersold and is concerned that Wales still has low profile overseas compared to other parts of the UK. Wales should be marketed more coherently to attract more visitors.

The inquiry looked at the role of the UK government and its associated bodied in promoting Wales abroad, with emphasis on tourism, inward investment and trade, and culture and language.

The Committee repeats calls for the establishment of a dedicated trade promotion agency, either within the Welsh Government or as a private sector vehicle working in collaboration with the Welsh Government, to drive inward investment projects into Wales.
