A BARRY councillor has made a plea to the Vale of Glamorgan Council to keep their "eyesore" Court Road waste recycling site clean and tidy.

Councillor Richard Bertin has said that the site is an eyesore that is frequently strewn with waste outside of the designated bins that has been attracting complaints from neighbours as well as noisy seagulls.

He also pointed out that the site is an "eyesore" that, being situated on the primary route into Barry, will for many people be the first thing they see as they enter the town.

Cllr Bertin added that residents of Court Road and Gladstone Road are fed up with the "extremely unpleasant" and untidy site.

“I will continue to press for this site to be kept cleaned or it will have to close," he said. "I now call on the Vale Council to take urgent action and control what is taking place at this recycling site.”

A response from the Vale council confirmed that the site is having problems with fly tipping and recycling contamination and is one of a number of problematic sites in the Vale that are due to be discussed.

Director of Visible Services, Miles Punter, said: “Unfortunately the recycling bring-site off Court Road suffers from fly-tipping and recycling contamination on a regular basis.

"As a result it requires frequent and costly maintenance.

"This is one of a number of problem sites in the Vale and the Council’s Cabinet is shortly to receive a report proposing options for the future of non-kerbside recycling collections.

"In the meantime this site will be cleaned, and monitored on a more frequent basis.”
