WHAT a great day was had by those people who attended the Memo in Barry on September 30 to celebrate The Vale 50+ Strategy Forum’s ten year birthday.

It started from 10am with free coffee/tea and biscuits, followed at 11am by a Bon Marche fashion show, modeled to a full capacity audience by our very own aged 50+ forum members.

The tempo and the noise level was then raised by the energy and enthusiasm of the Tenovus ‘Sing With Us’ choir (which is open to anyone who has been affected by cancer.)

The memo rocked to the sounds of the audience singing along to ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’ and Johnny Nash ‘I can see clearly now’ to name but a few.

Our celebration birthday cake was then duly cut by the Mayor and Mayoress of the Vale of Glamorgan Cllr Howard Hamilton and his wife Carol.

A wide selection of free savouries and cakes were then served to everyone at the birthday event.

This was followed by a tea dance with music and helpful instructions from the Sway Dance team who are based at Barry Leisure Centre.

The forum would like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress of Llantwit Major Cllr Mike Mason and his wife Bridget, for supporting this event, Officers from the VOGC, all the stall holders who provided such a wide range of information to the general public throughout the course of the day; the support of our VOGC Older People’s coordinator, and to our forum members for providing us with such a wide variety of cakes and savouries for our free event.
