PENARTH and Vale residents are invited to put their cake tasting skills into practice and emulate Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.

Bakers are also invited to getting stirring and mixing for the annual Great Charity Bake Off in Cardiff this November which was last year won by Penarth mum-of-five and full-time carer Sandra Singh with her lemon and blueberry cake with cream cheese frosting.

The event, organised by mum Karen Timbrell whose teenage daughter Holly was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2009, is raising funds for Brainstrust.

The third event will be held at the Chapter Arts Centre, Canton, Cardiff, on November 1.

Entrants will get the opportunity to submit culinary creations in the best decorated, most delicious and cutest cupcake categories.

And the judging public will cast the ultimate vote after savouring the cakes.

Organiser Karen Timbrell said: “Last year were had around 30 entries and were busting at the seams with 'judges' from the public so we've taken a larger room this year to hold everyone.

We're very excited about the categories too.”

Entry and judging will be the same format as last year - £5 for five tastes and a voting slip – and there will also be a raffle.

Karen added: “Just this week I have heard of three children locally being diagnosed with brain tumours - six months, three years and 15 years - so I'm really trying to push the symptom awareness cards this year too.”
