AN APPEAL has been made for the owner of an escaped Eagle Owl, circling Barry’s skies, to come forward and claim him or her.

Harry Potter’s favourite type of bird was first spotted by Barry resident Sadie Alexander around Wednesday, September 10, but householders around the Devon Avenue and Gladstone Road area.

The bird has a leash tethered to its leg.

Sadie said: “He is roosting in a tree in a garden at Devon Avenue and spends his days on the rooftops of the houses opposite on Gladstone Road.

“Its wing span is about five foot when he flies.

“There’s lots of other birds in the street which he’s eating and I’m worried about my chihuahuas.

“I have contacted the RSPCA and the local Welsh Hawking Centre but there have been no reports of a missing eagle owl. He does have a leather strap around his leg so is someone’s pet.”

The eagle owl has been kept in captivity in this country since at least the 17th century – frequently by people who are not falconers.
