AN AWARD-WINNING Barry restaurant has sampled another taste of success having achieved its first listing in a prestigious food guide.

The Gallery, Broad Street, Barry, now boasts an entry in the Waitrose-sponsored The Good Food Guide UK 2015 following on from it scooping the award for the Welsh Sustainable Restaurant of The Year.

The acclaimed listing forms part of the Readers Reviews category and restaurant owner, Barnaby Hibbert hopes the achievement will lead to more future acclaim following the eaterie’s opening around 15 months ago.

The review, featured in the newly released guide, said: “Excellent trout goujons starter, beautifully cooked sea bass and rhubarb four-ways for pud – crumble, frangipane, trifle and sorbet. All of this served by a friendly and knowledgeable front-of-house team.”

The modern, British restaurant changes its set menu every month.

Barnaby, 34, who employs 10 staff, said it had been thanks to the many customers who had given rave reviews that the restaurant had caught the book publishers’ eye.

He said: "There are eight new entries in there this year and the editor has come out and said the area is quite an excellent location.

“It’s the first time Barry has been anywhere near it.

“Ultimately what I want is a successful restaurant. I love to have great cooking. We are happy. I don’t cook for reviewers, but it gives the team a pat on the back. It’s not what motivates me – I cook for customers and I’d just like to say a thank you to the customers.

“But it is great and we hope to be in it proper next year.”

The tapas Bar 44 in Cowbridge, also in the Vale, was named readers’ Welsh restaurant of the year.
