THE daughter of a woman who died in a blaze at her Barry home has branded, whoever thieved her property, a “low life”.
The Barry & District News last week reported how Sheila Stewart had died in the Avocet Court fire and how her family had paid tribute to the much-loved nana and Ian ‘Max Attack’ Paterson and Jane Taylor had done their best to save her life.
But on Monday, September 8 police confirmed they had received a report, and were investigating, the theft of two mobility scooters from the 72-year-old nana’s vacant property, on the Thompson Street Estate, following her death on Wednesday, August 27.
Daughter Lorna Swain, 45, said a silver motability scooter, with basket, and a red scooter had been taken from a shed.
She said: “This has been done by a low-life. Why would you stoop so low to steal off a dead woman? It’s just disgusting.”
A South Wales police spokeswoman said: “The theft is believed to have occurred between 10pm on September 7 and 10am on the morning of September 8.
“The incident is still under investigation and enquiries are continuing.”
Anyone with any information in connection to the two mobility scooters, or anyone who noticed any suspicious activity around Avocet Court on September 7 and 8 should contact South Wales Police on 101 quoting reference number 1400333747.
