A BARRY schoolboy presented the charity that helped his dad with more than £1,130 after completing his loom band making mission.

Palmerston Primary pupil Jack Rees-Davies visited the Marie Curie hospice in Penarth to give staff his gift in memory of his dad Martin Rees-Davies, 47, who died in April this year after being diagnosed with cancer two months previously.

Nine-year-old Jack tapped into the loom band craze, with the aim of raising £1,000, and roped in friends Dan Quigley, 10, and his brother Jake, seven, of Ysgol St Curig, and Brooke Leigh Seer, eight, of Oak Field primary, into his entrepreneurial scheme.

The children then sold their creations to friends and family and neighbours to raise money for the charity close to Jack’s heart.

Mum, Becci Murlis, said gift aid would also help boost the final donation.

She said: “The staff were very excited and couldn't believe he'd raised so much selling looms in such a short time.

“Everyone is extremely proud of him especially his two brothers and all the family.

“He’d like to thank everyone who bought a band, Camilleri roofing for their kind donation, Alun and Corey Smith for the donation of bands and helping to sell them as Corey lost his mum Wendy the same day as Martin from cancer, and his nan, aunties and cousins for helping."

Jack also thanked his team Dan, Jake and Brook for being supportive friends in helping him pay tribute to his dad.
