BARRY club steward Richard Alexander has organised a third fundraising event for Help for Heroes to boost proceeds raised for the charity to more than £2,000.

Held at the Wyndham Conservative Club in Harbour Road, a barbecue and karaoke evening raised around £450 – adding to £1,785 generated through two similar “Bear-B-Q” events in the past nine months.

Supported by family, friends and the club, the events help the charity which supports veterans, serving personnel and families of those who have been wounded or injured, or have become sick, as a result of serving their country.

The enjoyable and informal event was very well attended by members, wives and friends, and Richard said: “A big thank you to everyone from myself and the Wyndham Club. I enjoyed tremendous help and support, especially from my parents, Rob and Jayne, and a special thanks to all those who contributed, both in terms of donations and support for the raffle, and, indeed, for just turning up on the night and entering into the spirit of the fun event.

“Judging from the feedback, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and I’m sure we will continue to organise similar events in the near future.”
